MMM! Coffee – In the Spotlight

How did you get into the event and mobile coffee business?

In my previous life I lived near Sevenoaks in Kent for 22 years. This is where I bought up my two beautiful daughters and worked as the CEO of a Family Support Charity. I loved my job and particularly enjoyed working directly with the parents and children running parenting and self-development groups. However when we moved to Gloucestershire three years ago it gave me opportunity to do something completely different. Having two daughters and two dogs we loved to go out and about at the weekend going to different outdoor events, we love a County Show! I also love a good coffee and would spend ages at these events trying to find a decent espresso based ‘proper’ coffee. Frankly I became tired of having to put up with really awful coffee at many of the outdoor events we’ve attended, on requesting Cappuccino caterers serve up something horrid made from a powder and being charged a ridiculous for the privilege!. Why shouldn’t you be able to get really good espresso based coffees in the middle of a field? Well, if you don’t like something change it, and that is exactly what I did.

What geographical areas do you cover?

I travel far and wide, have van will travel! I try to focus on the events in the Gloucestershire area but do in fact travel all over the country now.

What makes you stand out from other Event and mobile coffee van enterprises?

What is your favourite coffee drink?

I do love a flat white.

Up to how many people can you cater for at an event?

As well as our espresso machine we also have filter coffee machines and water urns which ensures we can offer our high quality drinks quickly. As an example I recently made coffees, hot chocolate and teas for 125 people in 25 minutes!

Are you happy to do events any day of the week at any hour?

Yes absolutely we are very flexible. In fact we love a night time event as it gives us the opportunity to get the candles and the lamps out – it looks amazing! Breakfasts are always popular too as we serve a mean bacon roll.

If a client makes a request for an event, for example that they would like a particular hot drink to be available that you do not usually offer would this be something that you could arrange?

I love a challenge! I am very much a ’can do’ person and will always find a way of making something happen. We can also serve alcohol for example to make liquor coffees or how about a pina colada thick milkshake YUM!

At an event what would a typical setup be?

Ooo anwered that above….. in question 1. But the van is a Peugeot expert van converted into a Mobile Espresso Bar, it has a top of the range espresso coffee machine, a fridge, oven and all the power I need on board. I also use a very smart brown 3m x 3x marquee as a serving area as well as branded 3m high feather flags – you can be sure we stand out from the crowd and look amazing!

If someone would like to book you up to cater for their outdoors event how much notice should they give you?

All I can say is as much notice as possible. We are always particularly business at the weekends and quieter in the weekdays.

We see that you have started to spread your wings and are offering mobile coffee van franchises, what are the main benefits that come with this?

After having developed the business over the last two and half years I quickly realised that I needed to look at how to grow the business. After carrying out a lot of research I realised that the mmm! Coffee ltd business model I had developed with scalable and that franchising was the way forward. The term ‘Franchising’ has been used to describe many different forms of business relationships, including Franchising, distributor and agency arrangements. The more popular use of the term has arisen from the development of what is called ‘Business Format Franchising.’
